- Ideal candidates are employees that possess both individual skills and situational skills.
- The candidates must have strong interpersonal communication, flexibility, the ability to adapt, and good managerial skills.
- A qualified candidate should be open and willing to adapt to situations that they are not familiar with. Since Brazil conducts business slightly different than in the United States.
- Ideal candidates should be social in new environments. Meeting new people will assist in getting accustomed to the culture of Brazil.
- Individuals with certain situational experience would be an ideal candidate. Employees that have experience in working abroad in the past, or have had international travel experience are likely to become accustomed to Brazilian culture more easily.
- Experience with multicultural teams, strong managerial experience, conflict and problem solving skills, and leadership experience are all qualities to look for in a candidate.
- Bilingual individuals will be able to adapt to the difficult Portuguese language and Brazilian culture more easily.
- Expatriate candidates should display at least a moderate level of cultural intelligence that will be tested by a multi-rated assessment.
- Using an intercultural adaptability tool allows us to assess the potential of candidates to innovate, lead, manage, collaborate and socialize in different cultures.
- It is important that candidates are made aware of possible differences in standard of living in Brazil, as well as the significant differences in the quality of public education.
- Expatriates will have the option of placing their children in private schooling systems. It is up to the employer if they are willing to compensate for all, or a portion of the schooling cost.
